Vanilly Wiki

A comprehensive guide to all things Vanilly.

play.vanillymc.net
19132

Vanilly is a community-focused simple survival server where any form of griefing or stealing is strictly prohibited. The economy is community driven using mainly Emeralds as the currency. You trade with villagers, do raids, and set up shops to get more Emeralds. Players are able to rank up in the game by voting. We have 20 unique vote ranks with different commands and perks that players can obtain. We host various events each month where anyone can participate to have fun and win rewards.

Getting Started

This is an in-depth guide to help brand new players get established on Vanilly. It covers mostly basic information about commands and worlds, though could be helpful for established players wanting to learn more about a particular subject.

Command Parameters

Whenever I use <  > in a command, it means you have to enter something like a username. Don't actually enter in the <  >!

  • <home> or <land> - Enter the name of one of your homes/lands(or a new one if making a home/land)
  • <warp> - Enter the name of someone's warp, or one of your warps (or a new one if making a warp)
  • <player> - Enter the username of a player online(if they're a bedrock player, there username will have a period in front)

So, what game modes are there?

The two game modes are Survival and Lifesteal.

In Survival, you can claim land, and make shops and warps. It is a friendly world, that is never reset.

In contrast, the Lifesteal does not have land claiming, and you cannot make shops, although there is the Auction House, that you can use to sell items. In this game mode, every time you kill a player (no land claiming means everywhere, PVP is turned on), you earn one more heart. Every time you die, you lose a heart. When you finally die when you only have one heart left, you get temporarily banned from the server, the duration depending on your rank.

Wait, what are ranks?

There are two types of ranks, store ranks and vote ranks. You buy store ranks, but you get vote ranks by voting for Vanilly on websites that it is on, like MinecraftServers.org. Both game modes have different ranks. As you rank up, you earn more perks!

  • Survival - Shops, warps, embs, claim chunks, and new commands, crate keys
  • LifeStealItems in the auction house, team members, embs, hearts, crate keys

(Note: you have to vote for each server specifically to rank up in those servers. So you have to vote for the Survival server to rank up in Survival, and you have to vote for the LifeSteal server to rank up in LifeSteal)

To vote, use the /vote command (make sure you are in the game mode that you want to get perks on). Then in the chat, five links will appear. Click each of those to open the sites to vote.

Bedrock players! Make sure to put a period in front of your name so the site knows that you play bedrock!

More in the wiki in Survival Features -> Ranks and LifeSteal Features -> Ranks.

Embs?

Since Emeralds are the main currency in Vanilly, players use abbreviations. Ems stands for Emeralds, embs stands for Emerald Blocks, and cembs stands for Condensed Emerald Block(these blocks equal x64 embs! Condense them with the /condense command, unlocked at the Poppy vote rank or the Axolotl store rank for Survival, and Hunter vote rank or the Blaze store rank for LifeSteal). Another abbreviation players use is wb, which stands for Welcome Back. It is sometimes used when someone logs back on.

More in the wiki at Glossary.

And what are crate keys?

In both game modes, you can earn Vote Keys by voting, which you can redeem by using the /warp crates command and placing the key on the Vote Crate. You can earn the other keys by ranking up, buying them with real-life money, or buying them from other players for Emeralds.

More in the wiki at Survival Features -> Crates and LifeSteal Features -> Crates.

Can I set a home to teleport to?

Yes! Position yourself in the location and direction you want to teleport to, then use the /sethome <home> (can also be used to overwrite a home) command to create the home! Use the /home <home> command to teleport to it!

  • /homes - See a list of all your homes
  • /delhome <home> - Delete a home

You start out with one home, but you can earn more as you rank up!

More in the wiki at Survival Features -> Home and LifeSteal Features -> Home.

Any general commands I should know?

Here are some:

  • /help - Extremely helpful! Opens a menu with lists of commands
  • /back - Teleports you to the last place you were
  • /time - Tells you the server time in the chat
  • /tpa <player> - Teleports you to the specified player
  • /tpahere <player> - Teleports the specified player to you
  • /tpaccept - Accepts teleportation request
  • /tp deny - Denys teleportation request

Survival

Claiming Land

Use the /view command to see all the claimed land around you. The land surrounded by red particles is land from other players. Yellow is land that you are trusted in. Green is your land. Go to a chunk not claimed that you want, and use the /claim command. Check the chat. A message should appear there saying you have claimed a chunk. You can edit the land using the /lands command, or you can use commands to edit your land.

  • /lands edit <land> - Select the specified land for editing. All following land editing commands will be for this land
  • /lands trust <player> - Give the specified player access to your land (alternatively, open your land menu and go to Players -> Trust Player)
  • /lands untrust <player> - Revoke the specified player's access to your land (alternatively, open your land menu and go to Players -> Untrust Player
  • /claimchunk - Deduct one claim chunk from your total, and give you a claim chunk item that will add one claim chunk to your total when placed(can be useful if you want to sell or trade claim chunks to other players)

To toggle permissions for players, open your lands menu, then click Roles -> Role you want to edit -> One of the two items in the bottom left corner.

More in the wiki at Survival Features -> Lands.

Warps

Warps are places where you can teleport that are set by players, like shops, towns, or grinders. You earn your first warp at the vote rank Fresh+ or the store rank Tadpole. To make a warp, use the /warps set <warp> to make a new warp. Make sure to stand in the position and direction you want players to teleport to.

  • /warps - Warp menu
  • /warps help - Helpful stuff about warps
  • /warps <warp> - Warp to a warp

More in the wiki at Survival Features -> Warps.

Shops

Players can create shops to sell items for emeralds or other things. To create a shop, point at the barrel you want to make into a shop and use the /shop create command. If successful, green particles should appear above the barrel, which means that it is a shop and not a normal barrel. Open the barrel, and you should find a special GUI. The first column is the items being sold, and the second is what it is being sold for. Each row is a different listing.

  • Click a green dye to create a new listing. In the new GUI, put the item being sold in one of the first two slots, and what it is being sold for in one of the last two slots, then click the green dye to create.
  • To delete a listing, click the TNT in that row.
  • To stock your shop, click the chest, then put the items in the new GUI.
  • To delete a shop, use the /shop delete command(Note: The stock will still be there, but when you open the barrel, it will be empty. Make it into a shop again to take the stock)

More in the wiki at Survival Features -> Shops.

Trading

Trading can be useful when you are looking for something specific, and you can't find a shop selling it. Use the /trade <player> command to trade with a player. Once the player accepts the trade, it will open a GUI. Put the items you want to trade on the left side. The items the other player puts in will appear on the right side. Click the clay block to turn it green, meaning that you are happy with the trade and ready to do it. Once both players are ready, a five-second countdown starts in case any player changes there mind. Once it gets to zero, the items will be traded.

Lands - How to start as a Player.

Creating your land:

  1. Optional: Create a land.
    /lands create <name>
    # This will create a land with your desired name. (Example: /lands create Oakheart)

  2. Claiming your land.
Use /lands claim to claim the area
This will claim the chunk you're standing in.
If no land has been created before, it will automatically create a land with your name.
HINT: If you are on Java version, you can view chunk borders by holding the F3 key and pressing G at the same time.

  3. Editing your land.
You can open the lands menu to manage your land by typing:
    /lands
This is the main command you use to manage the land you are in.

  4. To use the commands for a different land.
    Execute /lands edit <land>
All the following commands will be executed for this land.
    Example: /lands edit YertleLand

Select a Land for Editing

Execute /lands edit <land>

The following commands will be executed for this land.

Trust Players

Execute /lands trust <player>

Alternatively, open your land menu and go to players and click on the 'Trust Player' button.

Untrust Players

Execute /lands untrust <player>

Alternatively, open your land menu and go to players and click on the 'Untrust Player' button.

Toggle Permissions for Players

Open your lands menu by executing /lands

Click on the roles item.

Open the role settings menu.

Configure the settings to your liking.

Promote / Demote Players

Open your lands menu by executing /lands

Click on the player's item.

Use left click to promote and right click to demote them.

Lands - How to claim and protect your land.

First of all, please make sure to read "How to start as a Player" first.

Q: I am trusted in multiple lands. How can I claim for a specific one?

A: Select your land by using /lands edit <land> or specify the land with /lands claim <land>

Q: I am trusted in multiple lands. How can I select the land I want to use for my commands that I don't have to specify it in the commands every time.

A: Select your land by using /lands edit <land>

Sub Areas

What is an Area?

Land areas are "sub areas/lands" inside a land. These areas are three dimensional, that means that they are not bound to chunks but instead to blocks. You can trust players to specific area(s) and apply flags for it, like you would do for a land.

Create a new Area

  1. First open your land menu with /lands and click on the areas item.
  2. Now click on the add area button. After this you will need to enter the area name in chat.
  3. After that you will notice that the area will popup in the menu and give you instructions how to set the size of it.
  4. The selection is set. It will display it to you live. You can make changes as you wish. Then just execute /lands selection assign . After that everything is setup.

Trust Players and set Flags

By opening the areas menu again and clicking on the area, you can trust players to this specific area and edit flags. You can do everything for this specific area, like it is a land.

You can set various of homes in different locations around the map depending on your rank, but you will have 1 home slot regardless. To set home you need to do /sethome [name] and then to teleport to your home you can do /home [name] but you can also do /homes and click the home you want to teleport to. If you want to reset one of your homes you can just do /sethome [name] again and click the 'click to confirm overwrite'. You can also delete your homes by doing the command /delhome [name]

Mob Cap

Entities are among the most demanding things for a Minecraft server to handle, especially on versions 1.13+. Survival servers with mid-to-high player counts will often deal with thousands of entities. When we have too many entities loaded at once, server lag is inevitable, and the experience is made less enjoyable for everyone. Therefore, we try to limit the number of entities loaded by each player to avoid overloading the server
